Sorgry (Thorildsk: Sort Gryde, English: Black Broth) is a traditional Lyvanian soup made of bone broth, mushrooms, noodles, boiled egg and chicken/pork.

Lore

When pigs were killed for their meat, there were lots of unconsumable bones left over. By Åranian religions, if a creature dies, its body shall be used for as much as possible. Often the bones were kept in massive storages until a use was found for them. During the War of Dignity, the food supply was very low and the Lyvanians thought of boiling the bones for multiple days, which made a thick broth. To make the clear broth more appealing, squid ink from the Lyvan Channel was added. After the famine in the War of Dignity, more standard ingredients were added, such as mushrooms, noodles, boiled egg and meat. Sometimes kelp is added too.

Today

Today the dish is seen as a sign of independence and is of great importance to the cultural identity of Årania, especially Lyvan. It can be enjoyed all over Årania in traditional restaurants, which often exist outside of Årania, for example Thorildsby or Lanborg. A bowl of Sorgry is expected to cost around 15 crowns.

Origin

The origin of the dish is the Bone Wall in Lyvan where many soups can be enjoyed using traditional recipes and ingredients.
